Overview
Buried is one of the most loved zombies maps in the series, and it never shipped on Black Ops III. Buried Rebuild brings it back: the cavern-swallowed western town, the haunted mansion and the shifting hedge maze, faithfully recreated for the newer engine — complete with Arthur the giant's full movement and interactions, the witch's ghost house, the shifting garden maze, and both main Easter eggs (Richtofen and Maxis).
Every street, prop and lamppost was rebuilt model by model to match the original, then re-lit and re-scripted in BO3's Radiant and GSC. The goal was never just to make it look right — it's to make it play right.
How It's Built
Black Ops III ships with official modding tools, but a remake of this scale still takes a full pipeline — from scene reconstruction to native gameplay scripting.
Scene reconstruction
The whole town is assembled and verified in Blender — over eleven thousand objects, partitioned, repaired and prepared for conversion.
Models & materials
Hundreds of meshes and materials are rebuilt for BO3, with custom tooling to keep the original look down to shimmer, glow and surface response.
Map building
Radiant layout, collision, zones and NavMesh, then compile / light / link through the official Mod Tools — a repeatable one-command build.
Gameplay scripting
Every mechanic is re-implemented natively in GSC/CSC on the
_zm_* framework, matched to the original's behavior.
Main Easter Egg Guide
The map ships with the complete Arthur (the giant) movement and interactions, the witch's ghost house, the shifting garden maze — and both full main Easter eggs. The two quest lines share most of the journey; pick a side below for the step-by-step walkthrough.
Arthur, fully animated
Unlock his cell with the jail key, feed him booze to smash barriers, hand him candy for errands — follow, carry, build, repeat.
The Witch's Mansion
Fight through the haunted house, survive the witches' rounds, and claim the mansion's free-perk reward.
The Garden Maze
The maze re-shapes itself over time. Learn its current layout — Pack-a-Punch waits behind it, and the fountain drops you back in.
Both Endings
Richtofen and Maxis each have a complete quest line with their own puzzles — the tower lights up for the side you finish.
-
Build on the guillotine
Head down into the tunnels, gather the parts and assemble the signal tower onto the guillotine. Slotting in the satellite dish and the crystal locks you onto Richtofen's route for the whole match.
-
Get prepared
Stock up on explosives — you'll need them to bring the ghost lantern down — and open up the routes you'll be running.
-
Solidify the crystal orbs
Find the crystal orbs in the tunnels and energize them with a wonder weapon until they solidify.
-
Down and charge the ghost lantern
A purple lantern floats over the town. Bring it down with an explosive, pick it up, and as its holder kill witches near it to charge it.
-
Touch the wisp
Touch the newly appeared wisp, then escort it — keep feeding it zombie kills along the way. Lose it and you'll redo the stage.
-
Travel to the future
Drop a Time Bomb and rewind time — while you're sent forward, search the corpses lying on the ground to find the switch.
-
The maze levers
Inside the garden maze, pull every lever switch matching the current layout's hints.
-
Marksman
Targets pop up one after another on a timer — shoot every single one without missing. Clear it and you're rewarded with the full set of perks, while the tower flares up in Richtofen's color. Quest sealed.
-
Assemble the gallows
Head down into the tunnels, gather the parts and assemble the signal tower onto the gallows. Slotting in the vacuum tube and the battery (plus the antenna and wire spool) locks you onto Maxis's route for the whole match.
-
Smash the crystal orbs
Find the crystal orbs in the tunnels and smash them with the Subsurface Resonator.
-
Down and charge the ghost lantern
A purple lantern floats over the town. Bring it down with an explosive, pick it up, and as its holder kill regular zombies near it to charge it.
-
Strike the planks, chase the wisp
Hit the revealed wooden planks in the tunnels to wake the wisp, then chase it — keep feeding it zombie kills, and note this side's wisp weakens noticeably faster. Lose it and you'll redo the stage.
-
Escort the wisp again
Use the Time Bomb to rewind, then run the escort a second time — guide the wisp to its destination again to complete it.
-
Match the bells
At the bell board, ring the bells in the right pairing and order — a wrong note means the sequence starts over.
-
Marksman
Targets pop up one after another on a timer — shoot every single one without missing. Clear it and you're rewarded with the full set of perks, while the tower flares up in Maxis's color. Quest sealed.
